What I would do...

I am thoroughly enjoying the responses on Today's Inspiration Post. I appreciate you stepping forward and making comments. That really makes my day. Now, as to what I would do, ss Sheila said, the trim elements in the room make a bold geometric statement, which I love, but for me makes the art all wrong. Too much geometry going on.

There are two directions I could go with this room. The first is fun and out there, but definitely something I would do. I would hang "Illuminous Garden" by Natasha Wescoat for its whimsy and the great splash of gold that I feel this room needs to warm it up a bit. With this picture in place I could live with the purple rug.

For the more conservative mindset, I would choose "Contemporary Stripes I" but hang it upside down, as shown here. I have a compulsion to see stripes grounded at the bottom with a darker hue, otherwise it feels like its floating and not finished to me. I would also swap out the purple rug for a more conservative and warm chocolate brown.

Here are some really bad photoshops to show you how each would change the mood of the room.

And that's what I would do. Feel free to share images, art, or whatever your vision would be to make this room perfect. I'd love to see it.

Are you a conservative. ;)

Actually, my husband wouldn't let the first in the door so the stripes would be it for me as well. I like them both, but they're totally different genres...:)

I really liked the Contemporary Stripes before it was photoshopped into the room. I like stripes in general. But after seeing both in the room, I think the Illuminous Garden is better. The touch of yellow is very nice, and goes a long way to brighten the room.

Isn't it funny how one simply color can make such a huge difference? Thanks for visiting my blog Sheila. I appreciated your comments and hope to see you again.

I agree with Sheila. I liked the striped painting better, but when I saw them in place, I liked the other one better. It really punches up the room.

wow they both are so different! Isn't that crazy how two small accessories are totally changing the tone of this room?!

I love the first one with the whimsical art...for some reason though I'm prone to the second one, which surprises me because my initial thought when I saw the painting standing alone and not in the room is that the lines on it are still too structural for me in an already structured room...but actually seeing it in the room changes my perception of it...it just fits. I really like the mature/finished feeling it gives the room, but it still maintains a level of fun and personality. Just lovely...definitely better and more fitting than the original artwork.

Nice!

Thanks Erin. That is why I believe art is such a personal choice and makes all the different in the atmosphere of a room. Art is definitely the way to make a place your own. :)

I like your 2 photoshop comparisons. It really does show how much art can change a room.
I'm leaning more towards the stripes. I like how your took liberty to turn it upside down. I agree that by having it with the light stripes on bottom it would feel like it is floating.

I love what you've done here, showing the room with two different paintings. It shows how the artwork and colors can alter the room, but even more than that, shows a technique for making decorating decisions. So much better to look at two photoshopped versions than to try to do it in your mind's eye. (Writing this late at night; hope it's not too incoherent!)

For my tastes, I love the first painting--really LOVE it!--but not necessarily for this room. The stripes one doesn't do a thing for me. Dull, dull, dull. If it was my room, as far as art is concerned, I'd keep looking!

Great post :)

I know this post is from ages ago, but I had to pitch in my two cents. I did up an embarrassingly poor photoshop rendering of the room with my choice of art, "Looking down to S" by Jenny Wheatly. Here's the link to my version:

Ok, I think I can stop obsessing and go to bed now.

I like the second one but instead of a brown rug, the coral colour would be nice.
